Through proprietary formats, as you purchase a novel for digital download from Kindle it will come in their specific file format .AZW that only allows you to open it on amazon's wireless reading device. So if in the future, obviously after you have have checked out all the digital book readers for the latest model at the best price, you then decided you wanted to change ebook readers to a different make, your collection of electronic books turn out to be of no use. B&N's Nook Wireless book reader has .Epub assistance, as does the Sony Daily Edition, and so you can download your electronic books from everywhere you choose, paid for or free, moreover not simply from the manufacturer of the digital book readers , which is the situation with the Kindle electronic books reader.
