Earl Grey Tea Is Very Well Symbolized In Well-Known Culture

There's a certain mystique about Earl Grey tea. It's distinctive flavor and colorful, mystery shrouded origins make up a good story, and it's often the most popular of all English teas, and actually the best known tea, period.

Frequent references to the blend in popular culture (generally, music, movies, television, and books), have only reinforced the image, and made the drink all the more widely known than ever. You don't really need to look far to see references to the Earl Grey tea blend, for instance:

Probably the best known character in American television to drink the tea often is none other than Captain Jean Luc Picard, of the USS Enterprise (Star Trek, the Next Generation), but it doesn't stop there. In an episode of Star Trek series, "Deep Space Nine" there's a reference to "That Earl Grey fellow," and explaining him a thing or two regarding tea leaves, thus Earl Grey in the Star Trek universe is well represented in fact!

The good Captain is not alone, though. Artimis Fowl (from the novels bearing his name) has quite a fondness for the thing, as does Sir Leigh Teabing, from the book "The DaVinci Code." Then of course John Locke from the Television show "Lost" who asks antagonist Benjamin Linus for a cup of the drink, and the character of Hyacinth Bucket from the British sitcom "Keeping up Appearances," drinks the blend in a number of episodes.

And let's not skip animation! In the anime series Black Butler, the main figure Ciel Phantomhive drinks Earl Grey tea on several situations, and the drink is in fact part of the story line in a number of ways.

Music as well, sees quite a lot of references, starting from Weird Al Yankovic's "White and Nerdy" number, to Dada's track on their self titled 1997 album referred to as "The Ballad of Earl Grey and Chamomile." You'll also see a chapter called "Earl Grey" in Garrison Keillor's "The Book of Guys," and if you're interested in playing video games, and find yourself playing a game known as the "Steamboat Chronicles," well then your default Mech in the game will be the Earl Grey II, and all of this just scratches the surface. What are the other drinks can you list that are so well characterized?
